Narrative description of research
In May of 1997 I was conferred a Ph.D. from Harbin Medical
University in China.
During my studies for the Ph.D., my research was focused upon the study of related genes in human
gastric cancer. This
project was a
collaboration with the National Institutes
of Health in the United States of
America.
By using molecular biological techniques, as well as
molecular
cytogenetics techniques such as FISH, CGH,
and PCR, I found out the close
correlation between the del (7q) and the
pathogenesis of gastric cancers and suggested the frequent 7q31-q35
might contain a tumor suppressor gene for the
progression of gastric cancer.
My research led to two papers published in the
Chinese Journal of Medical Science, a high
quality journal in China; and
Cytogenetics in the United States,
respectively. Based on
my outstanding research, I was invited to perform the study of the
identification of
nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC)
susceptibility genes in the Chinese National
Human Genome Center at Shanghai, as a
postdoctoral fellow of the Sun Yat-Sen
University of Medical Sciences (SUMS). I mapped the nasopharyngeal carcinoma susceptibility genes on
human chromosomes 4p12-15 by micro-satellite markers
linkage analysis of NPC family members. My research led to a publication
in Nature Genetics,
"Genome-wide scan for familial
nasopharyngeal carcinoma and evidence for linkage
to chromosome 4," In October of 2000,
I was invited to Dana-Farber
Cancer Institute of Harvard Medical School
to conduct tumor vaccine studies as a postdoctoral fellow.
My research led to two publication in the Journal of immunology and
Immunology respectively. I obtained many
National Natural Scientific Foundation of China and Natural
Scientific Foundation of Guangdong
province .
So far I have published more
than 20 papers.
