 Background:
Professor Wang graduated from Hunan Medical College in 1959. Before  1981  research work was mainly in  the  field  of  influenza  virus.  From 1982 to 1987, works  were  focused  on  cytomegalovirus  (CMV).  The works won two second prizes of  science and technology Award of Guangdong province in 1986 and  1989  respectively.  Since 1988,  she devoted herself to the study of the relationship between Epstein-Barr virus and  nasopharyngeal carcinoma.  All studies in the past several years demonstrated the importance of EBV in the multi-step process of carcinogenesis of NPC.  She suggested that EBV is not just a passenger,  instead it may initiate and promote the carcinogenesis.  A low differentiated NPC strain  carrying  EBV  genome and the corresponding in vitro cultured cell line (SUNE) was established from  the  nude  mouse  xenografted  NPC  (SUNT) in her laboratory,  which provide a model system to
study the role of EBV in the pathogenesis of NPC.  It won 3rd prize of science and technology Award of medical and drug of Guangdong province.
She have obtained research fund from various sources: SUMS, 1989; National education committee; Ministry of public Health; National and Guangdong province natural sciences committee, 1990-96.  She is  the  head  of two  research sub-projects supported by Chinese Medical Board (CMB) and "8.5" Key Problem Resolve Research Plan.
